Roles of Inter-racial Confidence Circle (IRCC)

Formed in 2002, against the backdrop of the 11 September attacks of the twin towers, the (constituency name) Inter-Racial Confidence Circle (IRCC) is part of a network of 84 IRCCs in Singapore that aims to promote inter-racial, inter-religious harmony. The Community Engagement Programme (CEP), launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Feb 2006 highlighted the role of the IRCCs as distinct local-level, inter-faith platforms to help our multi-racial and multi-religious society stay strong and united during and after a crisis, especially one with racial and religious dimensions. Under this initiative, the IRCCs would be actively engaging representatives of religious and ethnic-based organizations located within the constituencies to come together, to know one another, develop understanding, strengthen bonds and build networks of trust through the organisation and participation of IRCC activities and programmes.
